okay let´s start with the main frog here, AI. What is an ai agent? bassically iterative ai that adjust to get the best outcome. Nowadays, we use an human guidance based iteration but in a future I guess we will have completely independent ai agents. I did a whole post talkig about ways to work in an agentic way.

Anyways, we can optimize a lot of processes just from doing an AI agent maker, being the simplest one client service. But it can be usefull as a trip manager agent, as a personal manager agent. Options are infinite. I really think this is an important step.

Still in 2025 the major problem is understanding what the client really needs. This is not changing soon so it is a nice gap we can work on. Here im talking about understanding the enterprise, how it works?, WHY it works?, and automatize what needs to be automatize. AI is a powerful tool here, every person in the company can benefit from AI: You can be a consultor for them. However it is more than AI, how the pipeline works, how to connect tools, your job is literally optimizing a company and that will require technical but also business expertise.

### Cibersecurity
Okay vibe coding is here to stay and one of its main threats is how unsecure code can be if it is made by someone who does not really understand what he/she is doing. You know what it means to us? money. Of course vibe coders are not gonna be leading the biggest companies, but employers who dont have enough control of the tools they are using can lead company to have big gaps in their security. Here we take control and we can use all pentesting tools we have to protect everyone data

Back in 2021, I did a post about monetizing programming skills for a side hustle. Fast forward to today, April 2025,  EVERYTHING has changed now. The landscape feels fundamentally different. The pace of technological evolution, particularly driven by AI, is surprisingly fast and, honestly, can feel overwhelming, terrifying. Like many programmers, I've felt a sense of urgency watching things change so quickly.


Observing this rapid shift one thing is clear:  Adaptability is key. Rather than being swept along, taking proactive steps is what will give us (me) a sense of control and open up new possibilities. For many of us with technical skills, exploring a side hustle in 2025 isn't just about extra income; *it's about staying relevant, learning hands-on, and building resilience in this new era*.
This goes for me as well, this year im entering my building era and we are doing it together. I've been thinking about what truly works now. If you're considering leveraging your programming skills outside your main role, here are a few foundational principles for building a side hustle in 2025:

### 1. Focus Intensely on Solving Current Problems:
 While foundational skills remain vital, the problems businesses and individuals face are evolving. Look closely at inefficiencies or needs amplified by recent tech shifts (like AI integration, data security concerns, automation gaps). Your value lies in applying your skills to these specific, timely challenges.
### 2. Build (and Share) in Public: Your portfolio is your proof. 
Actively working on projects, even small ones, and documenting your process (blog posts, GitHub repos, short videos) is crucial. It demonstrates not just what you can do, but how you think and adapt – increasingly important qualities.
### 3. Embrace Continuous Learning (Especially AI):
 The tools are changing. Whether you plan to build AI agents or not, understanding how AI can assist your workflow (coding assistants, debugging tools, research aids) or how it impacts your clients' needs is non-negotiable. Dedicate time to learning and experimenting.
### 4.Niche Down for Impact:
 The tech world is vast. Instead of being a generalist, consider specializing. Could you focus on automation for a specific industry? AI-powered tools for creatives? Cybersecurity for small e-commerce businesses? A clear niche makes you more visible and valuable to a target audience.
### 5. Think Beyond Code: Offer Solutions:

##    1. Look at the same styled elements 

 As some elements are repeated continuously,  (in my case, there were for example bullet points and titles). I styled them in the main App.styl file, so I can use them in every component. I know it sounds a bit dumb, but it saved me a lot of time

Create a json file with your data and install json-server, then run json-server --watch db.json et voilà.

## 3. Read the documentation

 Just because I didn't know how to use the server, I wasted 4 hours searching through stack overflow just to read in the challenge documentation the answer.

I was having trouble loading data, but I found that initializing the data I was going to use solved the problem. For example. Here I needed the name and percentage of the languages to be displayed\*

##  5. Personalize package.json file

Uploading npm run in package.json helps to create shortcuts you can use in the terminal. For example, I created another json file: db.json and later upload package.json

this, helped me run my server much quicker because now i just had to type npm run server


 Applying to a convocatory 

CV with React

So here I was, regardless of a bunch of advice exalting the importance of planning and think before you act, I jumped right into coding. Bad Idea

I  expended a big amount of time looking for a way to classify text, my main goal is to build a recommender, so why a classifier algorithm? Well, I didn't think of that at the moment, I just desperately wanted to code something, that blinded me.

I found a perfect dataset for classification: [podcast reviews](https://www.kaggle.com/thoughtvector/podcastreviews). It was pretty big, so I learned to use SQLite, which became a very useful tool I predict I'm going to use in the future for cleaning and priming data.

Then, I found [this tutorial](https://towardsdatascience.com/a-guide-to-text-classification-and-sentiment-analysis-2ab021796317) where I understood a little more about TI-IDF Vectorizer, I followed it to add it later to the podcasts reviews data frame

*   pro-tip. You need to change the datatype in the sentiment column to int64 for the classification algorithm to function.

But then, I realized how futile this code was. I'm trying to build a recommender. When the recommendation part takes place?

I decided I'm going to start differently. The most important part is the **client**, so the most intelligent approach would be to understand (in the easiest way possible)  how **they** are going to interact with the final result. That's my next task.

Even though I'm framing it as a failure, I really think I learned a lot from this experience, yet any of what I coded is going to end up in the final project :).

As a fullstack developer, Linux is my daily playground. Whether I'm building backend APIs, deploying to a server, or debugging issues in production, the terminal is always open. Here's a list of commands I use all the time — plus tips that helped me learn Linux faster.

## 🧠 Must-Know Linux Commands

### `cd`, `ls`, `pwd`
These are your bread and butter. I use them constantly to move around the filesystem and see where I am.

Last week, when I was trying to find the perfect theme for starting a blog, I started feeling very anxious, I am not more than an engineering student, what could I share? It is the same feeling I have gotten for around one year. But, a video of Ali Abdaal was recommended to me by a friend. There, Ali explains how writing can be a gate for you to become better at different levels.

In that video Ali, also talks about maximizing serendipity, putting yourself out there could potentially bring you the best opportunities you can think of, this idea is very statistical, right? To some degree, Ali is inviting us to think in a data-driven way. It is all about probability. Chances are, you could get your dream job tomorrow, but you can surely increase them by study a little more today.

This data-driven mentality could be applied to pretty much every decision of your life. Next time you are doubting about taking a risk, think about the probability to win. Even if it is extremely low,  If you do not try, it will be even lower.



How data change mindsets

While browsing the Internet, I came across several videos of people talking about their side businesses and showing how they achieve economic independence as just teenagers. Taking a step back from my project in data science, I decided to try my hand at building a side hustle on my own. This is a list of possible sources of income I have created based on my research and personal thoughts.

### Before starting

1.  My research's main takeaway is to try to **monetize your portfolio by providing value**. Look out for the brand's issues and solve them using your upcoming skills.

2.  Show your work, write and build a portfolio. It is the easiest way to get money from any  passion you may have

3.  Social media can be monetized!. You could, for example, be a Brand ambassador or try affiliate marketing.

4.  Teach whatever you are good at and monetize it, I'm not sure if this is that easy to do, however, it is mentioned in a number of videos talking about side hustles, so it is worth a shot.  How to teach? Create courses or be a tutor.

5.  Be a freelancer: it is the most obvious one, but it is impossible to ignore as well.

### Web development

1.  Create web pages/apps for local businesses and try to sell them or get a revenue share in return. In [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWySnxhZYsc), Kalle Hallden calls it "building for free, get paid for life", I find it a pretty good alternative because it may also be a part of your portfolio.

2.  Attempt building your own app or web. This is the hardest one to try but, if you came up with a very good idea, it can be as profitable.

3.  Create templates for components while you are creating your project.

### Data analysis

1.  Analyze brand strategies and reach out to them via social media, you can create a new strategy for them that can take place in your portfolio; however, this is not guaranteed money.

2.  Create templates for visualizing brand strategies.

3.  You can be a consulter for data-driven decisions at local brands.

### Data science

1.  Create a dataset, preprocessing data is hard work, that is why if you develop a dataset that gives value to a brand, you will be able to sell it to them as well.

### Video Games

1.  build your own video game

2.  if you know how to sculpt online, you can create 3d models or templates as well


My investigation in what side hustle to start if you enjoy programming

Enjoy programming?: Ways to start a side business.

Ok, so I have my project idea, what do I do next?  Think about how you are going to judge it first.

When I was trying to figure out my project plan, I read the second chapter of [Building Machine Learning Powered Applications](https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/building-machine-learning/9781492045106/). Which establishes 3 steps to start your project. They were:

1.  Attempt to reproduce results from a similar open-source model. 

2.  Find a data set closer to your objectives and attempt to train the previous model on that dataset

3.  Judge how the model works using the metrics you defined and start iterating

well, metrics? This book talks about how to choose them as well. There are two kinds of metrics: project and model metrics, the first one talks about how the application tackles its main problem, and the latter is more about the ml model itself.

In my case, the metrics I chose were:

*   how many recommendations are actually clicked when they appear in the app,

*   F-score

 About the project metric, this book copes with a recommendation project as well. They define a similar metric for theirs, and I found it really useful for my project as well. Nevertheless, I'm still hesitating about it.

For my model metric. As I will use text sentiment analysis for recommending the first results, I found [here](https://www.kdnuggets.com/2018/03/5-things-sentiment-analysis-classification.html#:~:text=As%20a%20classification%20problem%2C%20Sentiment,appropriate%20metric%20should%20be%20used.) that the most used evaluation metrics in this field are Precision, Recall, F-score, and Accuracy. Since F-score resembles the mixture of both the precision and recall score, I think this is the best approach for me at the moment.

I would go on by leveraging open source code next.

[This project](https://github.com/pvelosa/podcast-recomendation-system/) aimed to practice TF-IDF for sentiment classification in a large data set

## stages of the project

1.  finding data. [This](https://www.kaggle.com/thoughtvector/podcastreviews) is the dataset I found in Kaggle

2.  priming data. As a basic approach, I used a supervised dataset, deleted other columns I did not  want to use, and convert floats to integers

3.  I applied the TF-IDF algorithm

4.  I used Accuracy and F1-Score to measure how the model performed.

## Main takeaways

1.  SQLite is very useful for priming large quantities of data.

2.  You have to convert tags to integers ('positive' to 1, 'Negative' to 0) for the TD-IDF algorithm to function. Floats do not function either, 1.0 will not function.

3.  The gap between Positive and Negative reviews is pretty large, that's why the model has to be weighed to avoid errors.

4.  Adding another group to the classification probably will be a good idea.

"Taken" is an enthralling emerging Colombian luxury fashion brand with a minimal yet trendy clothing line. I set out to design Taken's website, nonexistent at the moment, aiming to make it representative of Taken's identity

Since this is a Fictional project, I am prototyping a brand identity from the brand's social media. (Instagram)

### What defines Taken?

*   Contemporary, minimal yet disruptive

*   uses beige, white and black as its main colors, while using green as a color to accentuate

*   in Taken's Instagram posts, I found a strong retro inspo, mainly in its fonts, use of colors and filters.

From the identity research, I created a proto persona: A Latina young woman from an upper-media class in need to stand out in a semi casual date. In [this article](https://www.nngroup.com/articles/ecommerce-shoppers/), we can enumerate 5 different e-commerce shoppers: Product focused, Browsers, Researchers, Bargain hunters & One-time shoppers. Since it is an upcoming ecommerce website, it is pretty accurate to use them to create a customer focused UI. One of the most important insights in there were the following:

*   Listings of new, popular, and sale products

*   Easy-to-edit shopping carts that retain products between visits

*   Clear site navigation

*   Complete product descriptions

Taking simplicity into consideration, I found the 6th land page prototype to be the most accurate.

I created a simple yet retro website with the brand colors and aesthetics. I edited the land page image to match the aesthetics of the brand. Then, since the goal here was to make it the most clear navigation site as I could, I went for a very simplistic use of colors, using green for the call-to-action buttons only

I added a wishlist page and an easy to edit shopping cart that foster revisit the webpage later and a description of clothes to make the brand more trustfully.
